Not far from Patmos is a group of tiny islands, known collectively as Lipsi. They cluster round the largest, the only one which is inhabited, Lipso or Lipsi. It is an idyllic little island, off the tourist track, and you will find the inhabitants very helpful and cheerful.

Here you will find beautiful sandy beaches and translucent waters. The island is so small that you can go everywhere you want to on foot. The hamlet on the protected natural harbour (the only settlement on the island), is composed of spotless whitewashed houses, while round its mini-piazza you can find tavernas, ouzeri, cafes and other eateries. Nightlife is unexpectedly not non-existent, as a night-club has opened recently.

From Lipsi it's an easy jaunt to Agathonissi. This islet with its wonderful beaches is an ideal spot for anyone wishing to escape the pressures of everyday life for a while.

Other small islands near Lipsi, are Arki and Marathi. The first one has a population of 50, and has been almost "forgotten", although it has a superb beach, while the second is uninhabited in winter. In summer there are two tavernas and a few rooms to accommodate the visitors who come to enjoy the peace and the island's beach all to themselves.
